Hey Everyone...

Being an avid Nokia user from last 7 yrs this is my first BB and must say that I am impressed. Never thought it is soo much user friendly and excellent communication tool....(although I am eagerly waiting for Nokia N97)

I have one question from all of you....I picked up my BB Bold from AT&T store on this past Sunday and it has .167 on it...I have been reading lot of threads about upgrading it to .190 and there are lot of problems like bluetooth, 3G, thumbnails etc....

My question to all you fellows is should I upgrade or not....from .167 to .190 looks like lot of numbers in between....but is it worth upgrading cause I really don't wanna mess up the OS and my calender is my work so I can't take any chances with it.....but at the same time the battery life is not good...with BT, WI-FI on... it only last 1/2 a day for me.....I have 30 days to return and exchange etc....is .185 has lot more to offer than .167 or should I go for .190??

What do you suggest??

I'm like you..sitting at .167, and debating whether to upgrade. If you check via phone, it says no upgrades available.

Other than battery life, as you mention, and non-software issues (like the weak vibrate), I'm reasonably happy. I may have a slight uptick in dropped calls in weak areas compared to my 8700, but it is tolerable.

My bet is, the feedback will sit about 50/50, so its a flip of a coin..

I was recently in your same shoes and went from .167 to .190. My biggest concern was for the battery life. In my experience so far, there was no change to .190. For me, I did not see a difference in battery life and will be downgrading to the .185 to see how that works. The only thing that I noticed from my use between the two were thumbnails. When I went to .190, the images no longer displayed. I didn't lose the images, but they were displayed with a thumbnail icon vs. the actual thumbnail of the image.

The process to upgrade/downgrade is an easy one, you just have to have the time. If you can't complain with the .167, then my suggestion would be to hang with it.

FWIW - I used 167 for about a month, and have been quite happy with it - getting up to 48 hours between charges on slow email and talk days. When I have more than 200 emails and more than a half hour of calls then it will only last me a full day. But even on heavy days when I talk for two hours using BT headset and lots of email it will last me until late evening so I can get back home and charge it.

The key I think is to turn your default screen brightness down to 50% or less (it's still plenty bright - try it)
I leave my Bluetooth and Wifi on all the time and I seem to have 3G most places around these parts. I leave all of it on all the time - however I do holster it when not in use. Holstering it also makes a big difference in battery life as opposed to just slipping it in a pocket.

Having said all that - I just updated to 190 today - so I'll observe a couple days and get back to you on how it goes.

I'm on .190 and no problems at all. There is very little risk in upgrading, just make sure you have a current backup via desktop manager and go. If you don't like it you can just downgrade again.

Unlike with Nokias, downgrading is simple on the Blackberry. There's no risk in upgrading other than the 10 or 15 minutes you'll spend to downgrade if you don't like the new OS.

One thing to always remember with Blackberry OS upgrades is to use the one specifically for your particular Blackberry model. That means no using the OS for the 8310 on an 8320, etc. Not a factor now on the Bold, but it's something to consider if and when new versions of the Bold come out.
