Default Answering Torch 9800 with Password Lock

Is it possible to bypass the unlock steps before answering a call other than using "Emergency"?

I'm afraid I'll accidentally dial 9-1-1 and bring down the police!

I need to secure my phone, but unlocking every time I get a call after the phone has locked ater 30 minutes is a pain. Makes me want a shorter password than the phone will allow.

H-E-L-P?!?!?!??!

Use a locking app that allows calls to ring through.

I didn't know password locking the phone requires you to enter a pw to answer a call.

I agree. My 9000 with OS 5 allows me to answer incoming calls without unlocking. However I cannot initiate outgoing calls while locked.

Is the problem reported by the OP possibly a new feature of OS 6 or particular version of OS 6?
