Messages Received, But Not Showing?

Hopefully someone has an idea as this is fairly urgent.
Have an Exec on BES 4.0. He is renting a blackberry different from his normal one so that he has coverage while overseas (from the US). His normal one worked fine, and the new one shows as activated on BES and received a test email, address book, everything else. Now, of course he's leaving in a few hours, and can send fine, and the red indicator flashes like he has new mail, but nothing shows. I verified he's viewing the inbox, had him pull and reseat the battery a few times, sent a <confirm> message to the device which responded . . .
I'm out of ideas beyond kicking him off the BES and re-activating which seems like a slim chance. To top it off he's in transit hundreds of miles away.
Any thoughts?
