Default Unlocked Verizon blackberry 9530

Please Login to Remove!

I recently got a Verizon blackberry 9530 and had it unlocked, it's definitely unlocked. When I insert my Virgin sim card, Virgin is listed as the Mobile Network under Manage Connections. On the Home screen, however, the SOS icon is shown. I am unable to make (and presumably receive) any calls, I get "call failed". I spoke to Virgin tech support and they say the phone is incompatible with Virgin. Is there any kind of fix that will allow me to use the phone with the Virgin network.
Thanks for any advice.

Virgin is owned by Sprint. Sprint will NEVER allow the activation of a non-Sprint phone on their network so Virgin might be the same way.

You might get around this if you "flash" the firmware to Virgin firmware. You have to find somebody to do this as it's not a simple do-it-yourself job. And if the firmware for that particular model isn't out there, it's not going to happen.

Virgin Mobile Canada is different from Virgin Mobile US.

To the OP, have you ensured that the device is in GSM mode and not is CDMA/EVDO mode?

If it is, it sounds like it is not unlocked.

Is Virgin Mobile Canada an HSPA+ network? If so, you cannot use an 9530 on it as that device doesn't have the proper bands.
