When you first rip and encode a CD into MP3s, whatever program you use should give you the opportunity to enter at least the artist, album, song title, year, genre, and track. I don't have an iPod and don't use iTunes. I like
Exact Audio Copy for the ripping and encoding step. There's an option in EAC to look up the CD on the freedb database - an online database of CDs with mostly accurate info. Always double check what it fills in!
If you don't enter the info before you rip and encode, you have to put it there manually after. If the MP3 encoding software doesn't put the tags in as ID3 v1, or you didn't enter all the info before, that's where Dr. Tag comes in as I posted earlier.
