7780 has a bigger screen and better backlighting. 7280 has slightly smaller footprint and a better screen WITHOUT backlighting. Otherwise, I believe the two are almost identical.

I like the form factor of the 72xx much better actually, even with the smaller screen...

I agree -- I also prefer the form factor of the 72xx devices. However, I would LOVE some more screen real-estate. And while we're at it, I would LOVE some more memory. An polyphonic ring tones. And Bluetooth...hehehe...

I will definitely get a 7100t when they come out. I truly wish they could have found a way to keep one letter per key, but I'll learn how to deal with the predictive text -- I simply can't run my Blackberry without memory any more.

Upgraded from a 7280 to a 7780....that lasted about 2 weeks before I took back the 7780 and went back to the 7280.

The screen on the 7780 is a LOT brighter and bigger than the 7280, but in return you get a bigger device, with less battery life. Also, I found that they 7780 was really really slow (in loading, etc.). I'd personally suggest the 7280!

I just purchased the 7780 from a 7280 after hearing that the 7780 would have better RF. I haven't had the 7780 long enough to see if that is really true.

As stated previously, the backlight on the 7780 is a lot brighter and I like the black colour (although I don't like having the Rogers logo on the back of it).

I do like the form factor of the 7280 too, however I got a deal on the 7780 that I felt I couldn't refuse.

I'm selling a 7280 for anyone that is interested. Look in my signature below.

7780 -- better screen for dark environments (i.e. indoors), bigger more colorful screen.

7280 -- better screen for bright environments (i.e. outdoors), better battery life, smaller size.

I've got a 7280 and have really been debating upgrading to a 7780. Would this really be an upgrade? Or, is this basically a size and a little more brightness? What's up?

I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. I recently swapped my 7280 for a 7780 and im very happy with it. I used to have a 6710 which is the same size as the 7780 but with a non-color screen and only 3.6 software. I really enjoy the large, color screen with still-slim packaging.

I'm new to the world of blackberrys and I'm trying to decide which one of these to get as well.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to use AT&T Wireless. T-Mobile & Cingular have lousy service where I live (I can't even get a signal at all in my office). Verizon is the best, but I keep reading the posts that say the 7750 is a really bad device and CDMA is bad for blackberrys. Nextel service is ok here, but I think the Nextel blackberry is too large with it's external antenna and the speaker phone makes it a thicker device. Plus, PTT is useless for me since I don't have any friends or colleages who use Nextel.

I like the look of the 7780 better because it is black -- I think the blue is a bit tacky. But I like the size of the 7280 better. I don't think the difference in screen size really matters since they both have the same 240 pixel width. So after reading a few other posts, it looks like I should wait for the 7290. From what I read, it is black, but the same size as the 7280, except with more memory and bluetooth. Is this correct? Any word on which carrier will offer this device? Also, which version of the operating system will it come with? Will it have 4.0?

I'm not quite sure, but if it's black, and has the other added features, bluetooth, etc.. Sounds like I would like the new device. If your device is unlocked, it doesn't really matter what carrier you use. Who knows when this will be available?

What band is the 7290 made for? Does anyone know what carriers intend to carry it?

Am I correct in assuming that would be 800, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz? That should cover the world, as far as GSM, right?

Yep. I am waiting for the 7290. It also has Bluetooth support and twice the RAM (32 megabytes).

It is rumored to have an updated screen (i.e. 7780 style screen in a 7280). Whether this is an advantage or a disadvantage, time will tell..

Would be nice if the screens were interchangable... but I doubt we'll ever see that day :/

Cool. I got a 7780 about a month ago and am really impressed by the screen. It's very readable in any light.

I would believe so. That just about covers them all.

yes, your assumption is correct. That's what quad-band means.
