I'll buy it here in Canada...I'm eager, but not so eager I'd go to a lot of trouble.

From whom? Since the Playbook isn't a phone, I suspect it will be sold in places like Best Buy or Future Shop or maybe The Source. I won't have two contracted devices...I'd rather pay full price [assuming it doesn't cost more than a new full-price phone]. My current Bell contract is just about done and I intend never to get into another multi-year contract again.

The Source was advertising the Playbook along with other wireless devices in a TV ad I saw over the weekend. As you will be connecting either via wifi or through your BlackBerry, you will not be needing an additional data plan (big plus over iPad!!) with one of the carriers and as a result the hardware will not be subsidized. No three year commitment. Full price for hardware.

Sears Canada is rumoured to have it in their catalogue. Its going to be in most stores.

As a Canadian only once i've tested it out in my hands will I consider it.

Remember this device has to fit a need - not just your wants/desires...at least that's what I want to do. Why do I need this device is what I want to know.

My Bold (9000) is almost 3 YO, and I'm letting my contract run out so I may be able to deal a little better by purchasing my equipment outright.
Right now I tether my phone to my MacBook Pro, and did so with my HP laptp as well. Speed suks, but WTH.
The Playbook (?) has to fit my needs as a General Contractor for me to spend my business's money.

Went to Staples today and spoke to the manger. He looked up the details on the upcoming PB and it states that the stores will only carry the 16GB model. You need to order online for the 32GB and 64GB models. I wonder if Best Buy and/or other locations will follow suit with that?

You can only pre-order the 16GB in store at Best Buy. To pre-order 32 or 64 you need to do it online. (I tried to order the 32 in store and couldn't)

Interesting. I checked with Staples, and the rep insisted that pre-orders for the 32GB and 64GB devices are still on track and will be honored. He didn't elaborate what happened to them on the website, unfortunately.

Perhaps they just sold out of pre-order stock?

Ordered it from Bestbuy.ca. No shipping charge. Says it will be released on the 19th and be at my office on the 22nd.
