I bought a BB7230 off ebay and put my sim in, cant send messages or make calls. just tells me that i can make emergency calls only. I tried a few different things but i cant get anything to help me. someone said that if it has an it policy name that it might be a problem(this is a used phone) when i look, it says it policy name: data only, is this a problem?

You probably want to check and see if the device has been reported lost or stolen.

As far as the IT policy, it can be "removed". See:

I would assume it is the IT policy at this point. If it's saying "Data Only" It was probably a company's BB, and one of the employee's sold it. I know when we have any that are lost or stolen, fist thing we do is push a VERY VERY VERY restrictive IT policy, and then disable it. I am sure if you call your carrier, they could tell you if it's reported lost or stolen.

OK I just read where it has an IT policy. You're going to have to overwrite it with a plank one. Use the procedure from the 2nd post. It works and is very easy.

Sounds like it is an unlocked phone and it is logging onto a carrier other than that of your sim card. That's a really old phone so I doubt you'll be able to manage the connection. Look through the menus and see if you can see a way to choose a manual connection and scan and choose your provider.

Nonsense. It has a DATA ONLY IT Policy on it.
Once the policy is removed, the rest is easy.
