Question BlackBerry Global Edition 8707h?

Please Login to Remove!

So here's the story...

I'm at lunch and my Berry buzzes with a vm indication.

It's the CIO and he's having a problem activating his latest toy... The BlackBerry "Global Edition".

Model number 8707h? The only letter designation I can find is inside under the battery. The device is unbranded (as was the box) except for the "Global Edition" logo on the front.

The device is purported to be the one they have been testing with NttDoComo in Japan.

He gave me one (as he had two) to kick the tires on for a week or so.

Works with my Cingular SIM but cannot get the EDGE Network only GPRS.

More updates as I have time.

Anyone have one of these?

A little birdie told me that this device does not have an EDGE radio, only GSM/GPRS and UMTS.

Oooh - now where can I get one of those - that sounds pretty cool...

I'm travelling to Japan in a couple months time, and know that my 8700g will not work whiel in Tokyo for 2-3 days, unfortunately - this "global model" sure sounds cool...

http://blackberryforums.********.com...ing_heavy.html

very similar to 8707v... probably the same except the case, etc.
I am using 8707v right now in asia, japan, and HK has 3G, but rest has GPRS.
works very well.
