I have a BB8330, that I have been using for a while, but I am less than impressed with the built in GPS. It works, but takes a long time to connect, and will lose the satellites very often. Verizon just upgraded me to the Tour, so is the GPS on the Tour any better, or will I still want to use my Holex bluetooth GPS?

There are a few good free apps that work for the Tour gps
Google maps, lifeinpocket (with voice navigation ), carfinder,poynt and BTsidekick.

I upgraded from an 8830, I had the same "slow GPS" problem that you describe. The initial release of the Tour was very similar, but with the latest version (and the latest Google Maps) it is dramatically improved - now only takes a few seconds in the car, usually faster than my Garmin GPS. It struggles a bit more in indoor areas, but near a window it usually works.

I am unfamiliar with all of the apps that you mentioned, except Google Maps. I'll have to check them out.

Blackstar was free, and finds 8 or 9 satellites within a few seconds. Very accurate too.

Mine too... works fine, and is usually pretty quick. My previous 8830? Now that was slow!

Mine works great, it always picks up pretty quickly (even in google maps that freezes every 10 seconds)

Mine saved my butt today. The wife's truck as the built-in nav, and it's the bomb. On my old hand-me-down however, there's no built-in nav. I couldn't find a place today after searching all over for it. Directions from the place were hazy at best and assumed I was at least partially familiar with the area, which clearly wasn't the case. Tour GPS to the rescue! I told it to go to the address of the place from my current location. Not only did it list the directions (with turns marked off to the foot!) but it mapped it as well. BAM! I was there in 15 minutes, just making my appointment. Took about 20 seconds to lock onto satellites, and only that long because I was in a city.

I have the Tour and a coworker has a Curve (all Verizon). I also had the Verizon Curve before the Tour. The only thing I find is the Tour GPS seems to recalculate the route allot. We set both Blackberries to the same address and the Tour will recalculate the route more often and som many times it hapens at the worst time. My coworkers Curve does not recaculate much at all. I had a great experiance with my Curve GPS, but my Tour recaculates too much. I have updated my PRL on both phones. I like VZ Navigator and it has saved me many times with both phones. I uise it daily and longer carry a garmin gps with me. ONe tool does it all.

gps works great on the phone, but dont count on it anywhere in the poconos in PA. stick with a regular GPS if you think you wont have service. other than that, i havent had a problem with it other than having to reset my phone and host once because gps wouldnt initiate
