Default Noobie question

Please Login to Remove!

Just got a Curve from Verizon Wirelsss. With my previous Verizon phones, I used their "backup assistant" service to backup my phone's contacts in case I lost or damaged my phone. Verizon's service could then download my contacts to a new phone when I replaced the lost or damaged one.

Problem is smartphones don't have the Verizon backup assistant service capability. However, Verizon did transfer my contacts from the old phone to the new one with their in-store sync device.

Question is, how can I backup my contacts on the Curve so that If I accidentally drop it into Lake Michigan, the contacts will both be saved somewhere, and able to get synced onto a replacement device?

If this has been discussed before, I will accept my fate of being duly chastized.

Outlook, or Lotus Notes (I believe)...but Outlook and the Desktop Manager will sync it and if anything happens you can just sync the new BB up and it will transfer everything

Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager, which is on the CD that came with your device.
Within that, you'd use the Backup/Restore feature.

I tend to keep my personal and work platforms separate.

I use Outlook at work, but the contacts in my Outlook have never been synced/combined with contacts in my personal cell phone.

Not sure I want to do that unless there is no other potential solution.

I suppose I could sync Curve calendar with work PC Outlook Calendar and sync Curve Contacts with home PC Outlook contacts.

Ahh. Thanks. I'll look into that this evening.

Though you got the CD from Verizon odds are its not the latest Desktop OS which I believe is now 4.5 (with or without Media Manager).

Just back up your new device with Desktop Manager, and whenever your device falls into a lake (any North American lake will do) or a river, or even a lousy water stream in a creek, synchronize and you will get ALL your contacts back.

Great idea. I wish I thought of that.
