I'm looking for a quick and dirty way to do these edits, so I was wondering. What if I just global replace all the venfdor IDs with the one for my carrier. While some of these will apply to non 8100 themes, is there any harm or risk to this approach?
Also, what is the reason for deleting the vendor.xml file before updating? I looked at mine and it has one line that says: <vendorsrc version="0.0.0.0"/>
Also, when editing the lines that say "vendorID= "111|118|122..." and so on, can I just add my vendor ID in there, or shoud I replace one or all of them with my Vendor ID?

I'm with you on that one JN!! I need some help getting the new themes on my phone.
I tried going through the instructions on the previous pages, but got nervous and quit! I was worried that I was going to ruin something (I DID run backup however).

OK, it is simple no need to edit out any files. Just find the blackberry.alx, copy it into a back up folder then delete it. Delete the vendor.alx file (don't worry, a new will be created once the upgrade takes place) then take teh balckberry.alx file that was modified by Jibi 9to save every one time) place that into the right folder and rung DM and the sytem will take care of things.

I just went ahead and added my vendor code (102 for Cingular) everywhere there were multiple codes, and replaced for 8100 everywhere there was just one, and updated. I was running the latest OS version on my phone but it updated anyway, which is nice because it looks like a lot of language support stuff I didn't need was removed as were the remnants of Yahoo Go, which I never got to work. Anyway, long story short, I now have all the themes unlocked
I am currently using the O2 theme, which I kinda dig and I really like the separate SMS/MMS folder. The VOdaphone is pretty nice too but I'm not sure about the colr scheme. It will be nice to see if we can;t unlock more and more new themes as vendors are added.

moving apps on the home screen
it's been awhile since i worked with a blackberry. I had my 8700g with the zen theme and i could move apps around so i had my mail, berry 411 and Im on the homescreen. Is that possible with the zen on the pearl? If how? I don't see the option under the app screen.

It's been a while for me as well. I have sucessfully installed other OS's on my previous 8700 before to get the unlocked themes. However, I never done this without installing another carrier's OS. Is it possible to load the T-Mobile Zen theme on my Cingular BB Pearl (w/ latest Cingular OS) without installing the T-Mobile OS?

brmcquire - yes, follow the instructions here in this thread. I have Cingy and am using the 02 theme, TMob is there too I just prefer the O2. You just have to edit the blackberry.alx file and update.
pimptempura - yes you can move the home icons around, just select the one you want, hit the menu key and select move application

Hey HF1, thanks for the broken down instructions... It really makes sense now...
I just tried it... I copied and deleted my blackberry.alx file from the correct folder. I also deleted by vendor.xml file from the apploader folder...
I ran Application loader. I get to device application selection and hit "next", and I get an error message...
"The application "Browser" can not be loaded, because it requires the following applications that are not available: net.rim.blackberry.xml"
I didnt mess with the "browser"... What have I done??

It seems when I edit/or replace the Blackberry.alx and start the DM, nothing happens. Do I need to force an update?
Thanks for the help.

Replace the alx in that folder with the one you downloaded then start your desk top manager afterwards, plug in your BlackBerry and you should be prompted for the update.

I am following this thread step by step and I still don't get what I have to do. I don't even have a /Research In Motion/Shared folder -- how does everyone else have one?

Wirelessly posted (8100 Pearl: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
You'll need to install the OS package to your computer that matches the OS on your BB. Then you'll have that folder. There should be links to the OS packages in Jibi's thread along with the edited .alx files.
Hope this helps.

Could somebody post a screen shot of all of the themes? I should be getting a white Pearl in the next few days, and I was just curious about what the themes looked like..
Thanks

Hey guys..
After much tinkering.. I Finally got the themes unlocked... All you have to do is instead of renaming the blackberry.alx and platform.alx file (Cingular only), just delete them... along with vendor.xml file... restart dm and voila... alll works well.

You rename the blackberry.alx file so that you still have it should anything go wrong. I would not recommend deleting it.
For those of you that are not able to update, be sure to delete your vendor.xml file.
