There is another one for "Edited .alx files for packaged theme installation" in the Themes/Ringtones/Wallpaper forums.

Each section has sticky's that are applicable to that section. I suggest just popping in to each section and just reading the sticky's.

The sticky's don't change that often. The sticky for the latest OS changes when a new OS comes out. Jibi's thread for edited .alx files changes when a new OS comes out. Jibi's thread has all the info needed for installing vendor packaged themes. The themes are already loaded in the OS package but you have to tell the Desktop Manager to load them to the BB. That's what the .alx file does. Jibi has instructions there on how to do it. He also states that it's not for everyone as you need to be comfortable editing the OS package on your computer. You can screw things up worse if you do it wrong. Read his instructions and decide for yourself if it's something you can do.

Ok, first of all, does the OS package above match your software version on your BB? If not then that's the wrong .alx file. Second, regarding step 4, that is basic windows file naming. Just rename your original blackberry.alx file blackberry.old (or you can move it somewhere else if you like but keep it around so you can put it back if things go bad.) Then take the appropriate blackberry.alx file from Jibi's thread and copy it to where your old blackberry.alx file was. Once that's done run Desktop Manager again and it should update. Note: Don't worry about the platform.alx file included with the blackberry.alx. You don't need it.

There is Orange, Cingular, O2 and I think that is about all you will see that are not on T mobile. But you can also download for free some thems like teh BB Dimension Today Plus plus. So if you go to themes, click on the menue and select download themes. There are a couple more on there to be downloaded.

Am I missing something? I've done my upgrade, then I took the appropriate blackberry.alx file from Jibi's thread and copied it to where my old blackberry.alx file was. All I get is an unrecognized file type.

So, you copied Jibi's blackberry.alx file to where your old one was? Did you run Desktop Manager again afterward with the BB plugged in?

Did you download the blackberry.alx file for Cingular 8100 4.2.0.71/4.2.0.88 package in Jibi's thread? It downloads as a .zip file and you have to extract the files out of it with winzip or similar program before you can use it. Did the files get unzipped? There should be a blackberry.alx and a platform.alx (you can ignore/delete the platform.alx.) Also, you should close Desktop Manager and reopen it after replacing the blackberry.alx. Once that is done, connect the BB, and open Desktop Manager. Then run Application Loader and you should see that "core applications" needs updated.

That's what I did. But didn't see anything to do with core applications. Maybe I should start all over again.
