What's the default memory on my VZW 8830? I'm assuming 64MB? Here's what I'm showing for status:

File Free: 2992310 Bytes
File Total: 47841280 Bytes
Does that mean I only have 2.9MB free with 47.8MB in use? What happened to the other 14MB I'm supposed to have?

Just did battery pull. Free now showing 11275897, so 11MB free, but still thought the 8830 had 64mb default, not 48.???

Default att ptt

hi
thanks for the guide and information! I have had my att 8310 for only a few days, tried to follow the steps to remove ptt from my device by deleting the two files from the java menu but nothing happened. Additionally I accidentally turned ptt on and now it is always running on my phone. Can anyone help me?
thanks

After you removed the two PTT files from the java folder did you run application loader all the way to completion?

Thanks this has been great; but I need a little more help. It seems everytime I get a new phone its loaded down with shopping applications such as games, graphics, tunes, etc. Have you been able to identify which .cod's these are? They drive me nuts everytime . I just end up hiding them, but if I can remove it, well then I want it gone!!!

Those are service books. You can delete them. They may come back by themselves, though. If so, just hide them.

Ok, get ready for a dumb question: how doI install the BB OS on my computer? My BB only came with the DM software.

To Add All Themes:(we will remove the ones we don't want later.)

Navigate the the following location in windows explorer:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files

I'm getting stuck at this step. In don't have a Shared folder in my Research in Motion folder -- ??? All I have in my RIM folder is AppLoader, BBBI Drivers, Modem Drivers, RIMDeviceManager, and USB Drivers. It's a VZW 8830.

I have this exact same problem. I have an 8130 that I got from Verizon 3 days ago. Initially, I went straight to RIM and downloaded the latest software. I got and installed a file called "Desktop Software v4.3 (English).exe". It was 215MB.

With that installed, I had no Loader Files folder. I searched my whole hard drive for blackberry.alx and *.cod and found none.

I followed the additional instructions in this thread, and followed the links which eventually took me to VZW's website and I downloaded the latest software from there. There were only 3 choices: Desktop Software v4.3 (updated 11/20/07), Desktop Software v4.3 (updated 11/13/07), and the VZAccess Manager software.

I downloaded the Desktop Software v4.3 (updated 11/20/07). That gave me a file named "Desktop Software v4.3 (Multilanguage).exe". It is 340MB. I installed it over the top of what I already had. Still no "Loader Files" folder or any .COD files.

What am I doing wrong?

that's the regular desktop software.
You need to download the OS for your BB.

It's like downloading Microsoft Visual Studio then wondering where a certain project is. You have to download the individual project...or in this case the OS.

That's great. Link? I've followed the links other people have posted and the DM and VZAccess were all I found.

I should be more clear. I did go to the link at the beginning of the sticky on downloading the latest OS, but it took me to a page on BlackBerry.com that said it was for downloading for US Cellular customers. I'm with Verizon.
