Yea I thought about a theme to hide the notification icon but then you would lose it for the emails

And PLEASE do not be discouraged, you did what I couldn't dream of doing (program Java, haha!) and you are answering the prayers of most of the members on here (go look at the "most wanted application" posts!) and you are just fighting a stubborn OS. The reason I do not personally like it is just not because of YOUR program, it's the interaction with the OS.

Feel special, this is what most people want, and your hard work is still paying off even now that little old me doesn't personally like it, I'm nobody, John Clark even liked it and at least he's a somebody

If we can get all the bugs worked out with everything and you happen to sell this app I probably will buy it and it will probably be my first purchased app for a cell phone ever....most of the time I "find" them around since I don't have the phone long enough.

split up emails and SMS

I don't know about your phone but I get 2 notifications for messages, one for SMS, one for emails (PINs are under emails too). If you hide the SMS icon, the email will still show up!

I love this cool idea, it's so much trouble, but it would solve the problem completely and if enough people like this program, hopefully programmers would make a theme for it...

Hmm...I didn't know that...I just have them grouped together...so I only get the one icon for email/sms. It's not hard to hide the icon behind something or something like that. I've done it before on themes that I've made

You have the 8320, I have noticed this on most themes, maybe not all, but you go to messages and in the options at the bottom of one of the screens (I can check it if you can't find it) there's an option to separate or combine SMS and emails. I like them separate b/c I get a lot of emails and I like to have them separated.

If this can be hidden, maybe there can be a test done with hiding it because that would get rid of the one and only major complaint of the notifications. Now the only notification is the new SMS text (they will still be unread, but it's not a big deal to go mark them all unread once in a while if there's nothing besides a star next to the SMS box as opposed to a message icon on top that won't go away...

The only last thing I could possibly think of is if you could somehow cause them to be read, either when they come in, or through the program.

Ok so I figured out the message indicator issue. What I did was first seperate mailboxes, under the options of the native sms/mms app go to options -> general options..scroll down to "Display Message Count" to None. Save that...then the icon for the sms doesn't show in the banner. It does show on your threaded app

Hope that helps some people out. The only thing that I can predict this having a issue with is the mms but you still have the tones. And it will still show another icon for emails.

Let me know if that fixes the issue for everyone,
Brian

*Nevermind, I think I spoke to soon

I got the idicator off the actual icon but not out of the banner...pesky little thing! That's the only thing that is causing your program to be enough to replace the native bb text app

Oh and didn't know if date or time was going to be implemented but that would be great too

@BCollins521: If you scroll up/down within a conversation you can see sent/received date/time at bottom of screen.

Also, I'm not sure it's possible to get banner icons on these 3rd party apps. JiveTalk doesn't have a banner icon either.

Even if there isn't a banner icon if I can get the native BB icon to dissappear once the text is read that would be awesome...too bad I don't know programming or I would help

Busy, me...that's an understatement. All, I apologize for no updates lately, but I assure you, I am HARD AT WORK on it. I had a minor setback this week with some personal issues, but keep subscribed to the thread, great things will come to pass

I don't know if you've found a way for this to work 100% on CDMA yet, but it might be worth looking at vlingo. Not sure if they're open source or if they'd help you, but their app seems capable of sending SMS messages on CDMA networks. Of course not knowing anything about how any of that works, this might be a dead end, or not useful at all.
