It gives the feeling that the device is functioning much slicker than with earlier OS versions.
I don't get scrambled texts until I reboot the device. Then, all SMS messages seem to get merged into one thread. I think this is the SMS bug that has been reported previously.

I finally found the link. Sorry about that. Downloaded and it works great - so far. However I use T-Mobile and I have Fav 5's. I seem to have lost the icon. Does anyone know to get it back?

I love the new profile section. Different Message tones for different people - sweet.

Default OS 5 update

I have downloaded the file and installed it on my Win7 PC. I deleted the vendor.xml file and then searched my system and deleted one other copy of the vendor.xml that it found.

I have tried using DM and it now "finds" the 5.0 update but tells me I need a service plan. I am on Tmo and have a data plan but no luck with the update.

I tried the loader.exe and it still just wants to update applications only even tho the system no longer finds any vendor.xml files even after searching ALL FILES AND FOLDERS.

Never had a problem updating before. Any ideas? I already tried John Clark's procedures to disable automatic updates with DM, still no luck.

Funny... because i just got an 8900 that had the old versio of your OS on it. i had no problem upgrading to 5.0. However, i slimmed my version down (shrink-a-os.exe) and used John Clarks guide for even more reductions... i got my OS install down to like 60 MB or something... it was going to be about 90+!

although, shrinking it shouldnt have anything to do with the DM saying that you need a service plan.

One other thing you could try is this:

1) backup everything - your going to wipe your phone in the next step

2) use JL commander to wipe and restore your phone to factory settings

3) once you get an error 507, you need to juse loader.exe /nojvm

this is where you would normally install the OS files... so if you are going to shrink them, then before this step would have been a great time to get that done ;)

best of luck!

sdgandhi, i get the same, had it on 348 too, the easy way to redo it i have found is to enter the main menu screenand then press the blackberry button, select options, then either reset your image or as i do, change the display to today from zen, save and exit back to home screen, then go back in and swap it back to zen,
its an odd one that not everyone that upgrades gets the bugs! yet some get different ones! odd when the phones are the same and the os is the same for everyone!!

sweetiepie, i'm on orange and have no problems!

update for the 5.0

love it love the threaded SMS its great only bad part is i dont have my password keeper, note pad and some other not that important things that i can live without untill it comes out for Tmobile. umm the visual viocemail is awesome for everybody with tmo call 611 and tell them to activate it they will act like they dont really know what to do but tell them to look into it its worth having hope this helps all that didnt know if they wanted to get it or not.

Smile yay!

Have had it in for a few days now and its great no problems battery life and speed have improved. googlevoice is better than visual voicemail IMO but to each his/her own. So far everything is much better and less buggie than before.
The only down side I have noticed is that my ringer volume is lower.
but over all
