On the 7290...

I had some challenges installing it:

1. I installed the new Desktop 4.0.1.19 over Desktop 4.0.0.30 (or .33).

2. I installed the new handheld software 4.0.2.49 over 4.0.2.32

3. The Desktop software didn't think the Handheld needed an upgrade -- it seem to think the 4.0.2.32 was good enough -- making me think that the Desktop had not accepted the Handhelp 4.0.2.49 upgrade.

4. I uninstalled the Handheld 4.0.2.32 software on the laptop (but 4.0.2.49 was supposedly still installed on the Desktop).

5. Now the Desktop didn't think there was any Handheld software on the laptop at all.

6. <several rounds of rebooting and reinstalling later> I uninstalled all copies of the Handhelp software and reinstalled the Handheld 4.0.2.49.

7. The Desktop software STILL didn't think there was any Handheld software on the system.

8. <several more rounds of uninstalling all Desktop and Handheld software on the laptop, including a regedit and folder deletings accounding to RIMs prior "clean install" instructions.>

9. Desktop 4.0.1.19 and Handheld 4.0.2.49 installed again after "clean" uninstall

10. Handheld software finally successfully upgrades on handheld and it syncs.... after a long, slow upgrade backup and reload.

Anyone else have the problem with the new Handheld software not being recognized by the new Desktop software?

.

you need to delete the4 Vendor.xml file or the handheld will not reload. Nice of them to tell us...

Thanks.... I did delete it by deleting all the programs, all the folders, and all the registry entries for RIM and Pumatech. Something targetted like "delete VENDER.XML" would have saved me 3 hours of rebooting and reloading and rebooting.

This was working fine before the update.

Sign in to tmobile.com. Go to Setup Blackberry Internet Email. Once in it should show you your email accounts. Click "Handheld" on the left side. At the bottom there is a button to "send service books." That put my "setup email" icon back.

I have had the gray box since two OS upgrades ago...I haven't noticed it as much lately, not sure if the latest release has reduced its occurence?

I did the upgrade with no problems.
Need to re enter the unlock code and it does not want to work.
I type "meppd" and get the screen :
network - inactive and the rest disables
now i tried typing mepp alt +2 and all other combinations I do not get the prompt to enter the unlock code.
Does anyone have a solution ?

it first appeared (for me) following 4.0.2.32 and i began a thread here, after searching. no one seems to have mentioned it anywhere.

i didn't spend too much time with .32 before .49 showed up (found the update late), so i can't really compare the two. with the wicked new data speed, i've spent less time talking, and more time browsing.

Can somebody detail the process to apply this upgrade? I read a couple of postings about just deleting vendor.xml, but there have to be a few more steps than that.

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone else noticed that each email address on the 7100t now has it's own Service Book?

there are step-by-step instructions that are available with the desktop manager & handheld software download. just remember to add "delete vendor.xml" in there at some point and all goes rather smoothly.

upgraded yesterday. no longer have the voice static problem that plagued the last upgrade and the speed improvement is noticeable. did not have any icon/address book/mail problems at all.

Is this a joke or have you really experienced something different from the previous OS version?

I can't believe they still haven't fixed the Bluetooth volume. These upgrades are worthless. Who is going to install these if one of the most important features of the BlackBerry is missing. If this ineptitude continues, I may jump ship to a Windows Mobile Device.

this is not a joke.

while mobile data speed tests are difficult to verify and most results are generous, there is a plainly visible increase in load times and navigation. read the linked thread and you'll see others have found the same.
