John, VERY interesting. YES, the second I unchecked mobile network, UMA appeared. It of course seems much faster on the web as well. Now what?

I've had this same issue with other versions. Not sure why it does that.

First try, no UMA. Then I realized that I had not deleted the vendor.xml, did that, re-loaded it, and got UMA instantly.

@GLOCKshooter: deleting vendor.xml prior to installing 4.5.0.37 had no affect here, one way or the other. still no uma.
this problem seems to affect most people (as in almost everyone) and might only work in certain areas.
so far i've only heard of 2 or 3 people that got uma working.

I'm gonna weigh in here as I've been quiet/low key thus far. It almost appears that the uma part of the client OS is not that high a priority, given that there are few carriers that actually utilize the protocol.
My thinking is that the things that have been addressed in this version (0.37) are universally a higher priority than UMA, while at the same time there may be fixes that have been applied in this version that require updates on the host (TMO Servers).
That is more logically the answer, with the exceptional 1 or two H@H subscribers that are having success, and also heightens my anticipation of the production release in the very near future as in 3rd Q 2008!

Google Maps Problem
I've tried other betas and each time I've had a problem with Google maps getting hung up on the Application Permissions dialog box. "The application Google Maps is attempting to access radio information that may identify your location." I click on accept and it just hangs there. Eventually I get "Uncaught exception: Application GoogleMaps (154) is not responding; process terminated."

While I'm not really sure what this really says, what I am trying to say is that 0.37 is a beta without support or guarantees/warranty. I think otherwise it works just fine, but needs the server piece to make uma work, while we have no such leverage against Tmo or Rim until it's production (which i feel is imminent).

This is an issue with the combiniation of OS 4.5 and BES. It doesn't happen to everyone--just us lucky ones!

HTML email works great on BES 4.1 SP5 with the correct modifications to the configuration database.

HTML email has not been officially released yet. It requires OS 4.5 AND an upgrade to BES and BIS. You need both.

I take it that the UMA problem affects all data usage, not just UMA voice calls, is that correct?

Yes - the handset is unable to register over UMA - although it constantly retries.

No. The wifi logo still lights up in bold meaning that data can come and go via wifi, just no UMA. That means no phone/sms/mms over wifi.
