RIM finally knuckled down. This is as it should be.

It does exist. Having these OS's leaked out on the internet is not a good thing.

I don't think that what you are proposing is even possible.

I gave up looking for the Beta and went back to 4.2.2.184. I am missing some of the features in the Beta release though and hope to get the 4.5.0.48 release 70 when it placed on the net.

Yes...but if MWI is fixed in the forest, and nobody is in the forest to get a copy of it...was it ever really fixed...?

(talk about mixed metaphors!)

I'm tempted to try out youmail this weekend...but as I recall, youmail isn't able to turn on the mwi with T-Mobile just yet...n'est-ce pas?

Actually...until .48 shows its face, or a production version with mwi support is available, I'm losing nothing. I like .42 at the moment and would hate to fall back to 4.2.x.x....and....as you've already noted, it's easy to jump back to T-Mo voicemail...I will likely give this a try tomorrow (taking the family out for a movie tonight, and then I am *crashing* - been a LONG week!).

I know that Cease and Desist letters were sent by RIM to many of the hosting providers of the beta OS's on the internet. I also know that one or more people lost their jobs at RIM (this by an informant so is 3rd hand information) over leaked OS's. The OS's don't belong on the internet. Just because they are "out there" doesn't mean everyone should be able have them. There are many people who are "supposed" to have them. People downloading from RapidShare are obviously NOT supposed to have them.

That being said, people do post them on the internet and do leak them. RIM isn't going to crash down your door because you have it. However, the leakers can lose their jobs over it.

rim should just open up a damned beta portal.

it's stupid... there is obviously demand for betas - simply to fix the older crappier os's, and they haven't done a public release in most cases for over 6 months.

they could fire their legal team, cease and desist sending out cease and desist notices, keep their employees, and deliver code that works to users that appreciate it.

their stock would go up too.

anyway, where the hell is .48?

/me resumes searching...

There's a demand for money too....Doesn't mean it should be legal to steal it.

I agree with this to a point. I would agree that it would be nice for people that don't mind running buggy code and testing new features. I for one wouldn't as I love being on the bleeding edge. But I think too many people would sign up and it would probably be a can of worms for RIM. Too many people would probably want/demand support for the code if something was broken as well. I for one could care less and would still run it even if RIM didn't offer support. Oh well I'm dreaming.

If they opened up the betas, then all the people here would be calling RIM for support of the beta. Not how it works. Just look around here at all of the questions. From how to load it to where's my voice mail indicator. Not worth it to them.

May be worth it to you, but that doesn't make it a good business decision.

Beta portal? Wha?

Release beta software before it is tested and complete? And you think you are mad now?

Microsoft tried that. Called it Vista.
I still can't believe Vodafone put .37 out there!
