but removing/replacing the battery should reset any caplock bug or anything else right back to normal then input the password regularly on the phone?

It *should*, but she can confirm by looking to see if it's showing anything like NUM or CAP in the upper right corner after the reboot.

What model phone is this again?

You're trying to justify your actions to a group of BlackBerry Administrators who have heard every excuse under the sun as to why somebody like you (or g/f) is to stupid to operate a BlackBerry properly. ie: type your OWN FRIGGIN PASSWORD. CHECK.

Just to clarify a lot of info that has passed along here:
  • A BlackBerry will NOT instantly start asking for a password unless somebody initiated a password security policy on it from the handheld
  • Connecting a BlackBerry to a computer with Desktop Manager installed will NOT arbitrarily change the password on the BlackBerry
  • Somebody is obviously entering a password incorrectly and is gonna blame you for their shortcomings
POSSIBLE RESOLUTIONS:
  • Type the password correctly
  • Type the password correctly
  • Type the password correctly
  • Wipe the device and enter all the contact info again by hand
  • Back up her data next time so you don't get blamed
Did I miss anything?

simple solution dearth, don't read it and you will be just fine. I am not a blackberry user, my girlfriend never backed up her data, she only has contacts in there and some pictures. the world will not end if she loses it but I would like to help her and thank the others that are helping me try to do that.

you are missing the fact that she did initiate the password feature and has always had it. I decided to try to set up the blackberry desktop program to download her contacts and it prompted me for a password. when she put it in it said that it's incorrect. we tried multiple times, did not work. we then tried it right on the phone and suddenly the old password was not working directly on the phone either. we now have one last attempt. I just want to get the best attempt possible. sorry this offends you.

she just got a new phone (iphone) to replace her curve. so in my wisdom and quick searching on the internet, i came across advice to download the contacts into outlook then to itunes then to iphone.

i'm much less worried about that now than I am about her totally losing all her contacts because of my brilliant suggestion. so i feel responsible to get this solved for her.

ok, ok, ok. The best solution you're going to get (IMHO) is to take my advice about her going to the Verizon store and mimic typing her password on another 8330 (in a text field) and see what shows on the screen. That's 99.999% her correct password.

While getting the device wiped *may* be your fault, not doing backups is your girlfriend's fault. Hindsight and all...

I wouldn't say I'm "missing" any facts. Your g/f gave the BB a password and could not enter it correctly on the BB or the Desktop Manager. This is not a BlackBerry problem. The best attempt possible is for the end user to enter the password correctly.

NO, do it via device. If she is on her last try, she should now be able to see what characters she's typing in.

thanks Juwaack, i'll let you know how it turns out.

here is what i think happened correct me if you think i'm wrong...

she initially typed in the numbers the first few times on the PC while her password is actually letters. then somehow the phone must have had cap lock on or something and it did not get input properly. then i think she tried using the alt-# to put in the actual numbers, then wouldnt work because the password is actually letters.

Dearth... if you look up in this thread someone said this is like the 5th such thread just today. if blackberry doesn't think that is blackberry problem, then that in itself is a blackberry problem. I greatly appreciate the adminstrators that are helping people in these threads and I feel sorry for YOU that you are so bitter at the world and at the users of your site that YOU are so negative. I wish you the best and hopefully things get better for you so YOU are not such a bummer to be around. good luck to you.

I'll be honest, I'm still not 100% sure you're telling the truth (based on being here 4 years and seeing these types of questions asked every which way you can think of), but I have no proof you're not so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.

You could be correct about the password....but the caps lock doesn't just get stuck when typing in the password on the PC.

Let us know how it turns out after she goes to the Verizon store.

thanks juwaack, i must be missing something but i still don't see how this would help me break into a phone if I did not have the expected password? But that really is not important. I will definetly tell you how it turns out.

I've been a BlackBerry Admin for a long time. If this is the 5th thread like this today, then my experience tells me there are 4 other people with the same problem: lack of password knowledge.

I'm not bitter, I'm a realist. BlackBerry smartphones aren't really that smart; they're indifferent. They only respond to the input provided by the end user. If the password isn't being accepted, then the END USER is not entering it correctly. Plain, simple fact. Get over it and admit that you and the g/f can't remember what you typed.

juwaack68 has a point about being suspicious. You're not being forthcoming with all of the information necessary in order to troubleshoot your persistent issue.

Things don't need to get better for me and I'm not a bummer to be around. I know my password. Go peddle your personal inadequacies elsewhere.
And if you're gonna insult me, at least spell my name right.

we never typed in letters on the PC. this was all last night when we got up to 9/10. we tried the numbers on PC before going back to trying it on the phone. I wish we had a few more attempts because I'm betting that inputting the letters into the PC would work. i was talking about the phone input when i was saying the caps lock was on and the alt being on/off.
