I sent an email to Google and told them about the problem. Has anyone with an 8703e from Sprint downloaded the new Version? If so can you post the results here. I'm just hopeing its not my phone.

Even weirder: I put version 1.6.0 on an 8700c and it shows the Bluetooth GPS option. I wonder if AT&T conspired with Google to disable the GPS on newer devices.

How do I get rid of an older version of google maps? I looked in modules, I did what google suggested:
1. Access Options > Advanced Options
2. Select "Applications"
3. Use the trackwheel to select "Modules"
4. Delete the module that starts with "gmaps"
and there's no sign of the older version. Just the new 1.6. But I have the icon for the older version and it is installed, I can access it. How do I get rid of it without uninstalling everything and starting over....
Thanks

Generally, when you download the new Google Maps, it overwrites the older version. However, if the older version is also still there then what you did should get rid of it. Did you remove the battery after you deleted the modules?

Thanks for answering John... never had to delete the modules, because the modules for the older version were never there.. just 1.6v
Can I find the file in my Rim folders on my desktop and delete from there?

Think I'm on to something...
I went to modules, clicked on google services... there are additional modules in there - gmail, news, and I think two earlier google map applications.... the 1.6 v isn't part of that grouping.... I think I figured it out.

Sounds like you have the entire Google Services application installed which includes Google Maps.

Yes, it enables google search so I use it - maybe it's overkill . But the good news is, I realized that within Google Services were two older map versions sitting there taking up space. I never thought to check a module within a module. Looking on Google's site, seems to be others with this issue, probably can't find the old versions to delete it.
thanks for your help, John.

After some research, it appears that the Bluetooth GPS option is still available on Google Maps v1.6.0 on 8700s and 8100s. I tried different combinations of deleting Maps-related modules and applications, along with battery pulls, and I still cannot get the GPS option on this Curve.
There must be a way though: It is mentioned on Pinstack that after a restart on a Curve, "the gps option was suddenly there!"
Any ideas?

Same boat here... I didn't expect this from Google. I'm very disappointed. Without GPS, this app does nothing for me...

Hi.
That was me that said, gps and bluetooth was there after reset. But once I found and deleted older versions of google maps (as explained earlier in the thread) I have now lost the ability to get gps via bluetooth. (although losing the two other older versions my phone is considerably faster)...
And the support at google is ridiculous... no one is responding to these complaints...
What up with this????

It appears that Google has not yet posted v1.6 for the 8703e -- you can download v1.54 from the following link (OTA):
http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.5....4+1&ver=v1.5.4
FYI -- I took the link that results in 404 errors, and I globally substituted "1.5.4" for "1.6.0" (two occurrences).

Very helpful... by changing the second 8703 to 8300 I was able to revert to 1.5.4 and i now see the GPS option there again. I'll test it later, but I may be back in business. Thanks!

A safer method would be to take the link that Google provides for your device and edit the version number only.

Forgive me, I'm kind of new to BB... but how would I do this? When I got to GMs on my bb it only offers me the curve download, how would I edit this?

With the link that Google provides for your device, select "Link Address" instead of "Get Link" from the drop-down menu. This will give you the option to copy (paste into "Go To..." field and edit) or send (i.e., e-mail) the address.
