I believe its mp4 and iirc h264 (apples hi-def one). Roxio has a built-in encoding app.

took me about 45 minutes to encode /transfer 24 minute silver surfer episode. It looks great. Maybe a bit slower than watching movies from my psp via a pro duo 4gig stick. But impressed. The video looked flawless. Using the auto enable option(fooled around w/ the advanced options but haven't viewed yet).

22 minutes of video (175ish megs) --> 178 megs encoded on a 2gig micro transflash.

Question for anyone who's encoded a movie.

I heard a rumor that you can only skip every 2 minutes once the video segment goes over 44 minutes. Is that still a bug/problem?

And is there anyway to pause/stop a movie and come back to it later. Like if say you wanted to switch to listening to music, because you were watching something on subway and didn't finish and want to listen to music at work?

Dam nice player if you ask me and the speaker is really good!

A couple things I found out while using the demo. You need to go to the Advanced tab and choose english (or whatever language you want) as the first time the audio was in Russian. Also, you need to answer Yes for the Mass Storage Mode when you hook the Curve up to the PC.

So I now have Borat on my Curve! The movie is 1 hour 26 minutes long. It took 27 minutes from the time it started until it was finished writing to the Curve. The movie takes up a total of 254MB. It was split into 5 parts, named part_1_Borat, part_2_Borat, etc. The files have a .3gp extension.

Video and audio quality are great. I started with a fully charged Curve. After watching the entire movie (5 parts) the status screen shows the battery level at 85%. Full screen mode is great!

I will be using this software often.

Mark
This is great Mark, thanks so much for the update. Looks like I'll be spending the money for this software too!

Mark,

Does Makayama start by ripping the dvd for you or do you first have to have it ripped before it will convert and send to curve?

Also, has anyone played around with converting DVD's and watching them on the 8300? Does the built-in Roxio software convert DVD's or do you have to use some other application to get video to your 8300? Thanks all!
i moved my 2GB microsd from my 8800 to my Curve and must say that the quality is great. I really didn't have much of a complaint regarding the MP3 and video sound quality on my 8800 except for some muffling. but the 8300 definitely blows it away in the media department (obviously, considering its focus). direct DVD rips of all three Back To The Future movies as well as Idiocracy all played amazingly on the 8800 and are just as good on the Curve. And the addition of full screen playing makes it amazing. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, it rips it first, then converts to the proper format and finally moves it to the Blackberry.

Ok, I need a favour folks...and I apologize in advance, but any topic/thread/post I search and re-read 10x over doesn't seem to grant me success.

I have 3 videos on my phone, all of which went through the blackberry roxio media manager. All good and fine and easy as pie. My issue is a homemade dvd i made of my neophew that uploads and transfers but wont play.

The two videos that work are "Windows Media Audio/Video file"

My nephews dvd is "Movie file (mpeg)"

I tried 3 options on the roxio media manager, still transfers but doesn't work. Prior to getting this Curve, I already made this dvd on Roxio software I purchased on a home dvd maker.

ANY help would be much appreciated. I have a feeling it needs to be converted but I have no idea how to go about doing it and not sure if that is in fact, the solution.

Thanks to all of you....I gotta love this place!

Before you guys go spending money that you could be saving for that shiny new 4GB microSD card... you might want to check out the link below. It appears to be a front-end application to the mencoder engine (yes, same one used in the blackberryfaq article). It has default settings for the 8100 and 8800 - but I'm betting with the 8800 and 8300 having same resolution screens that it will work great.

I've downloaded it and am running through my first conversion now... I'm testing xvid to blackberry.

i just started reading this thread and i am amazed....
i converted loads of videos with the Blackberry Video Converter and all work nicely and in full screen....

i cant figure out why, some videos will also sound normal using the speakers. (some only work with headphones in) i found this to be much better than roxio.....you dont need to have your bb connected to your pc at the time and the roxio was a little out of sync for me

Yes it rips the DVD so you need a DVD drive. Otherwise, it can also convert and download to the BB video files too.

Worked great... Office Space with a 1 hour and 30 minute runtime compressed down to 200MB at both 320x240 and 320x180. I think I like the 320x180 better even for full screen viewing so that it doesn't stretch the picture vertically so much.

Anyhow, I just wanted to report back - I was close to purchasing the other app before I stumbled upon this free one

looks to be 626MB / 656,730,112 bytes (Movie file (mpeg)

I'm not sure how to find the extension.

I guess there is a trick to putting video from cd's or dvd's on the phone rather than just importing clips and videos from a camera/memory stick or hard drive. Any help would be appreciated, thanks again.

Yesterday I tried the Seabyrd Technologies software but I didn't get it to work. When I run it, it pops up a DOS window, then when the DOS window is done doing it's thing, it creates some file. I copy down the file and that's it, that Blackberry has the file but it's only 66k big. What am I doing wrong?

I guess i didn't wait for the DOS window to stop converting cause it only took about 15 seconds before it seemed like it stopped so I would click OK at that point.

When I get home I'll try it again and report back. I'm starting with a Music DVD and using a program to rip/encode? it. It creates a Video_ST folder then it has a bunch of files in there.

I've been using VisualHub with the ipod (high quality) setting and it's worked very very well with the dr who episodes and a few youtube vids that have been transfered over. The video playback is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm very happy with it.
