It should be sooner. Baltimore already has it. It was first called WiMAX, then changed to Xohm, then to ClearWire, and who knows what it will be called next.

But the 4G wireless is out in just the Baltimore market and it is up and running (and I'm jealous).

LOL.

It's in Chicago too, but Sprint can't sell the service to save their lives.

Also, WiMax isn't a ratified 4G standard, so it really shouldn't be called 4G. It is closer to 802.11 WiFi than the cellular technologies.

It wouldn't matter what they said because unless our 8330's have a radio built in that supports Rev A, which I don't believe they do, then we cannot have Rev A. Reportedly, when the Bold comes to Sprint it will have Rev A.

It is a 4G standard. It's also IEEE standardized which LTE can't claim.

It is not a standard in cellular.

IEEE (WiMax being 802.16) has nothing to do with cellular.

i don't think there are even any 4g standards yet so nothing can factually claim to be 4g yet

That was kind of my point - can't make an 8330 into a Rev A device.

Also, the new WiMAX and LTE are going to be running on 700MHz where wireless phone networks are on 850 and 1900 MHz in the US (with the exception of iDEN on the 800 MHz).

Once you get an IEEE standard, you are well on your way.
