So, then ... do you think that, using this principal, it might be theoretically possible to get the 4.2 software onto a 7100 series handset (or maybe even an 8700 series?), or would that be more or less a silly endeavor?
I only mention it since, if you'll notice, there're themes for all kinds of different sized screens and such available in the Java folders in the installation directory ... just a thought ...
In any case, I might just give it a random shot and see if anything comes of it. Wish me luck.

You know that the 4.2 software for the 8700 is not out.
It's a bit of a Silly Endeavor. You can get (parts) of the 8703 applications onto an 8700. But the 7100 is a different species.

Too true. Meh. Thought I'd inquire.

For all you are going to gain, I wouldn't bother...I would wait until 4.2 is available for the 8700c. Shouldn't be that long.

I'm running it on my 8700 no problems. Data connections seem to be a little faster but my bluetooth connectivity has taken 6 steps back. no other issues thus far.

yeah tru, you dont really get alot...the best thing i found was it was faster for me, and a bit more stable then .351, and just for the 4.2 question, i was at SOHO and talking to a person from RIM who deals with Bell directily and she was saying it will be Jan on next yr for 4.2 and Q3/4 for the 8800...just fyi on that..

Will putting this software on my 8700g make the screen now say Sprint instead of T-mobile? Also could someone give some other benefits of the switch; Also what exactly is faster becasue I have not noticed a problem with speed on my 8700g and I am running 4.10.284
Please let me know; Thank You

Software updates will never change the branding. That is burned into the device.
If you haven't noticed any problems, then don't upgrade. That's kind of asking for trouble

yes i agree with NJBlackBerry, if you are not seeing anything running slow then i wouldnt worrie about it. but with me i found there was a lag from when i clicked on an icon for messages or pictures or ringtones. when i installed the 8703 OS there was alomst no lag(there will always be some). other then that its the same...i like it, but if you dont mind what you are running now then i would just stay. up to you though

4.2 from what i am told by a Rep from RIM who works with Bell Canada Direct is that it will be in Q1 of 07...and T-Mobile does have a new OS but its not as new as this one...that being said you might not see much of a difference and you will still be able to get tech support of you use the T-Mobile OS, if you use the 8703 OS (at least in canada) you wont get tech support...but isnt that what the forums are for lol
