BalckBerrys are DEFINITELY not for everyone. Folks get excited or enthusiastic about them because of the level of connectivity they provide with your email, calendar, and contacts. BlackBerrys put your Outlook program right in your pocket. But if these things are not what you want or need, BlackBerrys can seem overly complicated and way more expensive that a simple pre-paid solution.
I always say there is a right way, a wrong way, and the BlackBerry way to go about mobile telecommunications. And BlackBerrys are extremely purpose-driven devices. If you need that particular flavor of connectivity they're brilliant. Once you use them for a while you'll see the logic in how BlackBerrys work. It takes time and a soft focus perspective, but when it finally begins to make sense you find it makes PERFECT sense.
