John, congratulations on getting the 8320! Great phone. My GPS is still working only once in a while, better though on Google maps then BB maps. Not working so well at all with Intelligolf still. I just bought a slightly used T-Mobile 8800 on ebay with built in GPS and will try that out.
Enjoy your phone!

Yeah, thanks. So far, so good. I had bbtracker installed on the old phone but it worked about as good as your intelligolf so I didn't reinstall it. Maybe once they update it with a new BT access method.

John, I see you mentioned that i can down grade to pre 4.2 OS to solve the BT problem on a 8300. What am I giving up on the downgrade?

If you're using the 8300 there is no older OS to downgrade to. The OS that didn't have the problem was 4.2.0 and there is no 4.2.0 for the 8300.
The Pearl can be downgraded to 4.2.0.

I'm using 8320 with holux 240slim external gps with google maps. Is there anyway to have the map constantly centered on the gps location/blue dot. Currently need to pan map manually to follow blue dot, too dangerous when driving!

i Blue 737
Just a quick update!
I purchased the i Blue 737 and now everything works great. Even my Intelligolf is working all the time! So maybe the bluetooth GPS issue was not so much the OS for BlackBerry, but it just needed a better puck. Maybe some pucks are better than others. The Freedom works great with maps, but not so good with my golf software, but the i737 works great all the way around. FYI, I bought a used 8800 (T-Mobile branded) and its nice to have the GPS build in, but I had some dropped calls with it and the 8320 is so much nicer and lighter and smaller.

Well, I have an 8320 and a Holux GPSlim240.
The Slim works great with Google Maps but does NOT work at all with the built-in Blackberry Maps program.
The only difference I see is that in Google Maps it sees the 240 as a "SPP Slave" whereas Blackberrry Maps sees it as "Holux GPSlim240".
Perhaps BBM isn't using the Serial Port Profile (SPP) Slave service that the Holux GPSlim240 provides?
No way I know of to reset the 240 without cracking it open which I'm not going to do since it works flawlessly with my Macbook Pro, Lenovo VIsta laptop, Nokia N95 phone, and Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.
My thinking is that it's either an 8320 firmware issue or the way Blackberry Maps is programmed and NOT the Holux GPSlim240.

I have an 8320 and was going to buy a puck. After reading this thread I may wait a bit and see how things work out. There may be a new T-Mobile OS coming out tomorrow (or might not) that may help with these issues (or may not), right? I am also having trouble wading through all the choices of pucks and all the choices of software. I don't want to plunk down a bunch of money or use up a bunch of memory before I have a better idea of what's what. As usual, I find this forum extremely helpful, and can't imagine trying to sort all this out myself without such a valuable resource.

I had the Same Issue
I have the 8320 and just got a Holux m1000. I never had an issue with Bluetooth before (I use a BT Headset). I am experiencing the drop as described. I installed the very latest OS from T-Mobile the .180 and still same issue. I was using Nav4All. Out of curiosity I tried AmaZegps and it has worked Flawlessly. Has not dropped the connection once. It seems more than coincidence.
BTW - if you try AmaZegps and you get the error on downloading sound files (which you will). Download from your PC and select the 8800 version. It works fine and you have voice prompts. Just install it using good ole DM

It has to do with how the programs access the Bluetooth stack on the BB. There are a couple of ways of doing it. I'm not a developer but there is one way that uses the bluetooth api's and one that accesses it more directly. There is a better explanation than mine in the bbtracker sticky at the top of the GPS and Mapping forum.
Either way, it's definitely an issue with the RIM OS's that hasn't been fixed since OS 4.2.1 first came out.

Intelligolf Diagnostic message.
I have a "Earthmate Blue Logger GPS" device from Delorme which I've used for a few years with Intelligolf on a Treo 650.
I recently purchased a Blackberry 8800 because of the limitations with email on the Treo. The internal GPS on the 880 is not accurate enough for Intelligolf which needs better than 10 yards of accuracy at all times. When I try to connect to the Bluetooth GPS device using Intelligolf on my blackberry it keeps dropping the bluetooth connection.
In the Diagnostics window I get the following message; btspp://000A3A055C12:1: java.io.IOExeception:SppOpen failed: 1 I sent this error message to Intelligolf and am waiting for a reply from them. I'll post their reply once a recieve it.
When I test this with Google Maps the connection works fine and it does not drop. I also downloaded a trial version of MScorecard and it works fine as well. I prefer Intelligolf because you can add GPS coordinates for the front, Middle, Back of green and the 100, 150 and 200 yards markers as well as three additional locations. mScorecard only has options for the front, middle and back of the green.

Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhh!!!!
I just got the freedom mini to use with my T-Mo 8320. Tried it with BBmaps and Livesearch. Intermittant with both. I keep losing the connection. It does work some times, but just cuts off.

Funny, mine seems to work most of the time. I don't use those two apps that often, though. Usually TeleNav. Make sure that encryption is off and that the device is trusted. If you haven't upgraded your OS, you might try that, as well.

So I am a brand new blackberry owner (the last phone I had was a motorola V330, wow) and I love everything about my T-mobile 8320 except for the lack of GPS... I like the idea of a keychain puck, and telenav looks awesome... Is telenav its own application or does it work with BB maps or google maps? Sorry, these are probably stupid questions.
