My wife has an iPhone, so I have plenty of opportunities for comparisons. The browser on the iPhone is very good in some respects but I do think it's one of the things that causes the iPhone to have such poor battery life. The fast scrolling and zooming need a lot of processing power. But one key advantage of the iPhone is simply having more dedicated screen space. On a browser this matters. The 400x240 screen on my Sidekick LX, though not zoomable, was also a better browsing experience than the 320x240 screen on my Curve, but the Curve's browser supports two different page views, which the LX doesn't.

The Sidekick browser has a property that the Curve should copy: In any web page, if you're not in a text entry field and just start typing, it opens an address bar. There's no need for a separate "go to" step. Moreover, when you do this you can search (using search engine of your choice) for the string instead of entering it as a URL. This is more efficient than either the iPhone or the BB browser.

Good catch... I remember that was the one thing I loved about the sidekick and that is definitely something that really bugs me about the berry's browsers.

Yes I have. And my 8310, despite being my device of choice, isn't exactly what I'd call speedy.

My 8800 and 8700 were pretty much the same. not surprising since they have all been all EDGE devices and the BB browser really hasn't changed over all those years. I mean, Desktop View is kinda nice but it doesn't render pages as well as Safari IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I love my BB. I have since the 6230 and through 6 successive models but that love doesn't make me blind to its shortcomings and areas where it could stand improvement.
