Ive put in the original SIM Card used for the phone my friend gave me because mine was saying 'Invalid SIM Card'.
But when I put this SIM Card in it says 'SIM Card Rejected'

What does this mean?

Also, I don't understand much about unlocking a phone because I think that's what I need to do.
Does it cost to get it unlocked?
Do you not get an unlock code with the phone in the box?

what is the carrier the device is from? tmo? att? where? what is the carrier your friend is using? what is the carrier you are using?

You are probally using his sim card that he cancelled. An unlocked phone means you can put just about any sim card in it from any carrier and the phone will work, as long as the sim card is active on the network. To unlock the phone you need to get the unlock code from the carrier. As for a cost, tmo won't charge as long as you have been a customer for at least 90 days, AT@T, I have no idea. They provide instructions on how to unlock the phone
