Default Will updating my BB OS relock my device?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

I'm a new BB user and also new to the BBForums. I just came out of the stone age and left my Franflin Covey planner in the trash at the turn of 2K7.

My company does software development and had a BB 7290 in a drawer from T-Mo. After initial inspection and looking thoroughly, I found out T-Mo had already unlocked everything, which makes sense, because I live in the Ottawa area, in Canada and I use FIDO as my present day GSM provider with my blackberry which works fine. I am waiting on TLN to kick in on March 14th so I can transfer my wireless number to Rogers and get BIS. Right now i'm just enjoying the benefits of having a Phone-PDA combo which was never really a success with the windows-mobile platform or distinct cell phone companies in my case.

I have to say I am pleased with the capabilities of my BB7290.
I presently have the 4.0.0.198 on my BB.

I had a straight and simple question.
'Will upgrading-flashing to either Rogers Wireless or T-Mo newer BB software re-lock my device?'

T-Mo presently has 4.0.2.49 which is not too recent - probably because they issued newer models quickly and catered to those new models

Rogers being in Canada is a bit slower than most major US carriers to release newer hardware, this probably explains a newer OS release, since they support older models a while longer after they've hit the market. So it seems the BB OS is at v4.1.0.379 (Multilanguage)

Which would be my preference - any problems if I use the Rogers one?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Update that beast. It will be ok. Unlocking carrier signals has really nothing to do with the device's software OS.

Have fun.

You can use any version that you'd like to - RIM writes all of the code and the carriers test and release it.

Upgrading the Handheld OS will not relock a BlackBerry.
