Default Simple way to activate themes and update Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

There are a few guides on here on howto activate different vendor themes and such, also how to update your blackberry using a different carriers files. Here is a simple script that I made to make this extremely easy. I have only tested this on my own computer and I provide this with no warranty. So if it breaks something. It's not my fault! Backup and be careful as always. Please read the readme. This program basically moves the Vendor.xml to Vendor.xml.bak and removes all the theme 8700 vendorID references. READ THE README!!! The files must be extracted to the Directory where BlackBerry.alx is, not a subdirectory of it!

8700 Only

I cannot test the All BlackBerry Version! I have no idea whether it will or will not work! That one user completely at your own risk! Untested!!!!

Will this work in other than 8700 Blackberries?

I know everyone says to remove the vendor.xml cause maybe that's the easiest but all I do is take the string for my device out of my current vendor.xml and when I get a new vendor.xml not made for my device I paste that line in there so it'll load.

It should. The alx editing process is the same for all BB's.

It should work for any companies 8700, All it does is remove the vendorID from any 8700 theme. I could do the same for vendor.xml, but I figured if there's no harm in just renaming it, then why not.

I think that is more work than deleting...

He was referring to if it would work on a BB other than an 8700.

Ahh well it won't work on anything other than the 8700, I could easily change the batch file to work for others, or to remove all vendorID references if there was an interest. I'm not sure of any ill effects it may have, but if someone tells me that I can remove all of those references and it will be okay, I'll do it. Added one for all blackberries

It should be fine. I removed the Vendor tags from all themes, including the ones for 7100 series, and only the ones for Qwerty devices showed up, so removing them all won't hurt anything.

ok, thanks for this, however I'm still struggling!
I installed the O2 UK handheld software on my device (if anyone else wants this you can download it from here:

ftp = O2.ftptoday.com
username = bbsoftware
password = bbpass

Anyway, I installed this on my device, then I used the tool in this thread to remove the vendor info, updated my device etc..

However, in Themes, I can see the previous Cingular ones, plus Vodafone and plus Orange. But not O2 !! Where is the O2 one?

I got it working, don't worry! You have to edit the BlackBerry.alx file and remove the Vendor string from the end of the themes you want to see.
