hi i need help i brought a BB 9800 when i try to turn it on on it comes up with th blackberry on the bottom of the screen it starts to load for about 1 and 1/2 second then a white screen rolls up then dissappears the a battery sign appears with a red cross through it and nothing else happens i cant get it to connect with my blackberry desktop either please help!!

Sounds like a bad battery or lack of proper charge. Have you tried charging and with what? I would suggest a wall charger instead of USB.

hi there yes i have tried with both wall charger and usb i just took it off the wall charger after 12 hours nothing

Does it give you an error code?

this looks like a dodgy battery, you will see this if you use a forged battery.
check you battery has a hologram and printed serial number on the back.
take the battery back and ge it changed and it should all work okay

no there is no error code,

and if i take the battery out and plug it into my pc the same thing happens with no battery in it????

its not battery, any bb battery does same thing. red cross. wont start up

Please do not "bump". It makes the natives angry and it does nothing.

Bought new or used? Is the device still under warranty? Could be the charge port or something internal. Did it work previously? What did you do just before it happened - get wet or dropped?

This is from another BB forum. It's time consuming, but seems to work for some folks.


"first remove the battery from the device for a minute, and put it back in.
Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage). If it doesn't reboot on the first attempt, leave it several more hours. I've had one charge for two days before it came back to life after an extreme battery depletion. Every 3-4 hours, with the device still connected to the charger, you can remove and replace the battery to see if it reboots."

I have similar and then it got worse...
I live in Singapore but bought my Torch in Jakarta so I would not be required to enter a 2-year contract. Here I can use any SIM card (carrier) I choose. Got the Torch 3 weeks ago which has AT&T written all over it,and thought "Good."

Having same problems: sometimes it says USB is not strong enough. Then it starts charging; then stops. Now it shut down and I tried pulling the battery. No luck. Searched Blackberry support and found 14 posts on the same issue with no replies from RIM. It's been reported since last year and many time here.

I have all the latest software updates... to get a free replacement of battery I have to fly to Jakarta (I'm going next week anyway).

But now paranoia makes me think AT&T dumped these defective devices in SE Asia. Since yours is a recent post, maybe you got a lemon from old stock?

The no reply from RIM is a real worry too. I'll post after I replace my battery... but it sounds like this is something we have to live with if we keep our Torch. (Unacceptable)
