Default Tmobile upgrade to get 9700

Please Login to Remove!

Hello i have a little situation here and really need help.
Well i really want this phone but im on a family plan. My brothers line is the only one that is upgradable. I called in to 611 and they said that ill have to get a data plan for it and if i take it off they will charge me a 200 termination fee .
So if i get the phone for the subsidized price using my brothers line i need to add a data plan.
If i call in the next day or two and take off the data plan will they really charge me?
they are telling me its a new thing on the contract.
thanks for helping.

That's the deal if it's in the contract.

And you won't enjoy the 9700 very much without the BlackBerry Data Plan.

They will definitely charge you if you remove the data plan from the line used for the upgrade. Most carriers are now requiring data plans for many of their smartphones, and definitely for BlackBerrys. If you want the subsidized price on the 9700, you have to get a data plan (and keep it) on the line you use for the upgrade.

Ask em if they will break up the cost of the phone across a few bills, pay the 450 for no contract price, and then be free to do what you want with carriers in 9 months!

On the other hand... 9 months isn't a bad wait to get 50% off the price...

I certainly understand wanting it right now. I'm a "gotta have it now" kind of guy myself. But the prices will come down significantly in the next few months if history is any guide.

Actually, I don't know how it is in the US, but I've done this for customers many times. I'll use the line thats eligible for a hardware upgrade, then transfer the data term to the other line as that is the one that is using the phone.

I need to get approval for it, but there's no reason to screw a customer over if we have a fix right? But it could be different for you guys, so I'm not sure. Maybe ask for a manager and present that idea to them?

Default It isn't THAT great

Look...I love my new 9700. BUT it's NOT that different than my Curve 8900. It's just an 8900 with a trackpad and 3g....REALLY.

If you and your brother are willing to exchange mobile numbers then cancel your data plan on yours, give it to him and get the BB upgrade on his line for you to use. If not, you have to "pay to play".
