That should be the only way to install OTA apps.. As far as I know. (Except for App World however)

Default also getting the "data service unavailable" error

I'm also getting the "could not connect...data service not available" error message when trying to log in.

The difference - I was getting it on the PREVIOUS installation, AND I'm getting it on 1.7 as well. I deleted the old app, did a battery pull, installed 1.7.

I'm chalking it up to a FB problem and nothing related to the app or my BB.

Facebook is upgrading their system. They are not working on all users at the same time, so each of us will experience down time at different periods than the other users. In my case, my down time was a few days ago and lasted for the majority of one day.

Give it a day or so and you should be working again. This has nothing to do with FB 1.7 versus 1.6.

I always use the BB Browser (the one named "Browser" in the up left corner of the bb browser) to install things like this.

By the way, I had found a way to install 1.7 and 1.6: using the Loader.exe app and an OTA install

The 1.7 tells me that I need a network coverage, but I really think that needs BIS or BES. Can please some one confirm me this?

About the 1.6 for OS v4.6 at which I roll back, now I have all my BB contacts unlinked from the facebook friends, while they seem to be linked instead in the Fb BB app in the friends list!!
I am not able to edit the one that result as linked (in the Fb BB friend list) because I cannot open any menu by hitting the BB key on my BB!!!
I can only open the menu on friends that are not linked yet.

How can I reset this? I already tryed reinstalling the 1.6 version after uninstalling the fault one, but the problem persists.

Any help???

I find that 1.7 lags quite a bit more then the previous version.

I've also noticed it doesn't automatically link my contacts even though that are the same name.

Contacts seem to not link, the lags are a bit better now, however, notifications are not appearing as and when they should, still getting them faster on my laptop than the bb..

You must have BIS / BlackBerry Internet Service. (A data plan)

If you have a BES / BlackBerry Enterprise Service, you must have BIS however if you have are on a BES / Companies BlackBerry server then they have policies stopping you from installing 3rd party applications or certain websites.

BIS. I think they're still fine tuning the fb glitches.

Wirelessly posted (8100 Pearl)

So I must use 1.6 as the Fb download page says...

But I really don't understand why it does not link to the bb contacts! I'm thionking that it might be that I have tryed the 1.7 that as you say has this problem. Maybe it has left some mess in the bb...

I have to update os soon. I hope to fix this.

Ps: would you do a big clean with BBSAK or would you just try to install new os uppon the actual?

depends, if you want to wipe your OS and install a fresh updated latest OS, that's good. that way you can install your 3rd party apps one by one, dependng on what you use, and they will be fresh installs. (i would just use jl_cmder)

Usually i just update the OS without wiping my device. right now i've been too lazy to update, but i have been very happy with 4.6.0.282, it's been very stable for me.

I used jl_cmder with my old 8100, but I was reading that BBSAK has a windows gui and that is preferred to jl_cmder...but I really don't know the differences. Can you give me some informations?

About Fb, if I backup my contacts (that have lost all the Facebook infos in the contact informations), if I put them back in the clean device after a clean install with new os and new fresh install of Fb 1.6, do you think that they will result fault if linking them to the Fb friends?

What I mean is: do you think the contacts/friends linking problem is in the bb contact database or in the bb Fb app data???

someone more technical would be able to help you on the two apps

i think.. the problem is with the FB app data. i don't see why it should have anything to do with the bb contact database. because it's the 3rd party app which is linking to your bb contacts.

i have a feeling it's a bug within the app itself.

The only thing changed here was installation of FB 1.7 and the required reboot. I'm dead in the water here - and extremely frustrated.
I did the exact same thing and now my Tour is in a reboot loop. I see there are plenty of instructions for wiping the the OS and re-applying. Since I have only had the device for a month, I haven't backed it up... Big dumb me.

Can anyone confirm that the standard OS reinstall wipes all user data? I hoping it doesn't, but I'm too much of an optimist.

Thx

OK, I was able to recover the device, but could not figure out how to connect with BBSAK while the Tour was reboot cycling. I ended up using these instructions, after downloading all possible software from my carrier's site:

crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry

And yes the data is gone-daddy-gone. Boo-freakin-hoo.
