Default Application Center - "Failed to authenticate server" - Fixed!

Please Login to Remove!

If anyone has recently upgraded their device software and then subsequently wiped the handheld, you may be getting the above error any time you use the Application Center on your BlackBerry Storm. You also are likely getting certificate errors when trying to use Visual Voicemail. After researching many sites and trying to fix this problem myself, I finally called Verizon to get some professional help. As it turns out, they had not been aware of this problem (at least they couldn't find anything in their support database). We dialed up RIM to get help and they too were not able find anything related. I had seen this article on CrackBerry (Application Center List Empty - HELP!! (Also a VVM question) - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com) but the user was not able to post the link to the certificates that were lost during the wipe. After I explained (many times to both the Verizon Tech and RIM Tech) that I just need "the link" to get to the certificates, they both agreed that there is no such link. Lo and behold the RIM tech found an article (after 2 hours of us trying to wipe, re-wipe and re-re-wipe) with the link to the Certificates. The link is here and is available via OTA (http://www.blackberry.com/go/missingcerts) - after the certs are downloaded then you will be asked to reset to activate the certificates. After the restart I was able to use Application Center and Visual Voicemail, etc, without certificate errors.

I hope this helps at least one person!

Thank you for this ... I had the same problem, Verizon couldn't figure it out, so I took my phone back to Best Buy and they gave me a new one. Mods, this needs to be stickied, because if someone wipes there handheld on Verizon they will likely encounter this problem.

Glad to hear it! usually 99% of all problems can be googled and fixed, so i was quite surprised that there wasn't much about this on the net. i'm hoping it comes up as the first google hit for people having the same problem. it was very frustrating, not only did it break the application center, but also meant that visual voicemail was broken and any other apps that rely on those base certificates.

wow. I had this same issue. Verizon AND Blackberry said that there was no way to send the certificates to the device and that it needed to be changed out. I didn't take that as my answer... so wiped the device and reloaded the os.

Now that this is here... things are easier! thanks a lot! (I wish this was posted a few weeks ago...;))

Yeah, why didn't re-installing the OS fix this for the OP? That would have also re-installed all certs.

From what I learned, the certificates were not included in the installer package. I don't understand it entirely, because I also wiped the phone and installed from scratch - no luck. I hope in the next builds they just include the .jad file with the certificates (if this makes sense).
