Default Multiple UMA Devices on UMA with 8900 Curve (Javelin)

Please Login to Remove!

So, I just got my 8900 today and have been playing around with it.

It seems that UMA will not hold if there are other UMA devices around. I have another Curve 8320 that has rock solid UMA and it seems as though only one device will connect at a time. IF I'm lucky enough to get UMA on both at the same time, one will always say call failed if I have an active phone call on the other.

I tried this with two 8320's on UMA and they both work fine at the same time. However, turn on the 8900 and only one device will work at a time.

Anyone else see this?

I have seen this happening with my BB 8320 and Samsung T339 in the past.
When I called T339 with 8320, T339 would hold UMA but 8320 would not hold UMA.
It might be something to do with BB OS. After upgrading the OS to newer version, I did not have that problem.

Since you are saying that both 8320 works fine but your 8900 isn't working, it might be your OS. I cannot say it for sure since I don't have 8900 yet (planning to get it next week for my birthday).

From talking with others, this appears to still be a problem in the latest beta OS. I just wanted to see how many others have seen this.

See, serves you right JC for the beta compulsion syndrome. Roll back. Wish it hadn't snowed my office closed. My 8900 is out for delivery and noone's there today.

This is happening with OS 4.6.1.114. I just updated moments ago and am going to try it myself with the .152.

Oh, I saw .152 in your sig and figured you started with that one. So it's problem with any OS and the 8900? The way I understand it UMA is automatically on when there's a WiFi signal detected by the phone. My wife has an 8320. We don't pay for Hotspots at home or anything. Are we gonna have a problem with that?

.152 hasn't been the best OS for me yet. Honestly .133 gave me the fewest troubles, but I'll give it another week or so to see if .165 or better makes it to "market".

For what it's worth John my wife's 8220 has been able to hold a UMA call at the same time as my 8320 and my 8900 when I tested it. Other then that we're not both on the phone at the same time often, but I am pretty sure I was on .133 when I tested it.

Seems to work okay for me.

Yesterday, a co-worker and I both connected to our wireless internet with UMA support. I am on the 8900 and my co-worker is 8320. We then both turned off the mobile network radio and the UMA remained. I then called my co-worker and we talked for a couple minutes. So this does not seem to be a problem for me.

Also, I have spent some time in major airports with my 8900. Where ever there is a T-Mobile hotspot, I get a UMA connection without any "scan for network" action on my part. I can't believe that only one person would be able to use the UMA at the spot. It always worked fine for me.

My wife has the 8320 and she never sees the UMA logo on her screen like I do with my 8900. She has a WiFi logo only. What's up with that?

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

It turned out to be a router issue. I'm using a wrt54gs and it has worked flawlessly util getting the 8900. Upon rebooting the router (sometimes twice) UMA worked on both phones for a while. Then a few hours later I had to reboot again. So.....dd-wrt! I loaded that and the problem went away and has been flawless again.

That's exactly what I was seeing. However, if I left them alone, they would alternate every hour or two. Very annoying.

She's had the phone for 6 months and never sees UMA. I saw it right away on my 8900. Do I change a setting? WiFi is connected I'm pretty sure. The Logo is always there and when I've checked it's in operation.
