Default BlackBerry "virgin" asking "pay-as-you-go" related questions

Hi,

I'm new to the BB scene, just purchased the 9000 today and I'm still giddy, but the giddiness is slowly fading as I'm running into some problems.
Here's my situation: I live in Canada and travel a lot to France, China and the US, so for that reason I have pre-paid phone cards for all those coutries, it's actually cheaper for me to do that. Now I thought with the WiFi that comes with the BB9000, I could continue using my pre-paid cards and do everything else through the WiFi, regardless of the country I'm in. Not so much it seems.
I understand the push-email features only work if you have a BB account with your provider but all I wanted to do was to, once a day, download my Yahoo personal emails to the BB, and do the same with my work Outlook email (by syncing the PC and the BB). Can't do that, the phone won't let me setup an email account, the only thing I seem to be able to do is setup a BES thingy which I don't have. Any 3rd party apps that would do that for me?
Also, the GPS isn't working (worse yet, those %^$& at Rogers actually removed the app from the phone altogether), I'm guessing that's because it only works over the network, not the WiFi. Even the "Weather Network" application that's plastered throughout this forum right now, doesn't work, probably for the same reason ...
So my question is, what exactly can I do with WiFi only, if I decide not to use the mobile network (too expensive if I stick to pay-as-you-go).
Thanks in advance.

Thank you. Not what I wanted to hear but that'll do.
