just figured that i would report in about verizon eliminating the delivery confirmation on SMS...
I have Verizon and I live in the tri-state Philadelphia area. The SMS delivery confirmation stopped working as soon as it turned midnight yesterday night. Thus, it stopped officially working for me on 9/18/2008
I called up a Verizon rep today and was told that the service was implemented and it has not gone nationwide yet, but it eventually will. I voiced my opinion in the kindest of words possible while being in rush hour traffic and pissed off that Verizon is eliminating a SMS feature that has been around for years and years...and I was told that my opinion would be taken into consideration (my @$$). Regardless, I'm sure they are saving data throughput by not having that extra bit of data sent back to the originator of the message. While data throughput might not translate into direct cost savings, it frees up network bandwidth which might be the staging grounds for more multimedia mobile services which Verizon will make you pay for, etc.
I'm extremely unhappy with the move, but there's nothing we can do about it. At least Verizon customers still have the ability to send 7 text messages in one message
. ATT customers (formerly Cingular) haven't ever had this feature, so believe it or not Verizon subscribers, it is possible to live without it! ha ha. I'm sad to see it go.
