I'm currently using the BB 7100g and here's what I have and know about it.
You must use the BB data plan on the BB. There are 8 service books on the 7100g that are listed. Go to Settings, then options, then service book. the following should be listed: IPPP for BIBS, BlackBerry Internet Browser, Web Client (CMIME), WAP push config(WAPP..., Provisioning (PROVISIONI..., Cingular WAP Secure Tr..., Cingular Browser (Brow.., BlackBerry Browser (Br...
If you don't have all of these, then you need to call BB support at 800-304-3044.
Also, it may be that it wasn't configured correctly on the Cingular side. I know that I didn't have all of the service books previously, as well as them having the incorrect PIN listed for my account. BB support will go overything step by step to make sure that everything is configured correctly.
