I am plannign on getting a Blackberry Pearl and will be with the Bell network. I have heard that phones like the Blackberry constantly access the net on their own so if you don't have a data plan you will be charged per use. Is this true. I love the look of the Blacberry and can get one relatively cheap. I am a srudent right now but when I get a job I plan to get a data plan. Until then can I use my Blacberry without a data plan and avoid being charged some how?
Thanks for your help!
There are APN/TCP settings that will allow you some third party application use, which your carrier can charge you an arm and a leg for. If you do so without a Data Plan, be careful. What is charged and what is not varies from carrier to carrier.
I too am on the bell network and use my pearl sans(without) data plan, bought the phone from a private party, transferred the number at the bell store, now for your question, i've had it for around 2 weeks now so i have yet to have a bill, but 3 different people at bell told me that there will be no extra incurred costs without a data plan. Hope this helps
yeah thanks for all ur help, i contacted bell and they said some third party apps may access my phone and use data unknowingly, is there anyway of stopping this?
well what i really wanna know is if there is a sure fire way to avoid extra charges on my bill... i dont have the blackberry yet but i am planning on getting the 8130
