Default Mr. BB Noob filled with Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I just got a BB pearl, but I was given all french manuals, and I don't know how to read french. I'm a noob to a BB and wanted some answers to some questions really quickly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

1) How do I know that I'm not currently connected to the Internet? (I don't have a data plan right now but going to get it within a couple weeks. I'm scared to get connected to the Internet, as my current provider will probably rape me with absurd charges. )

2) What is EDGE? (the one beside the signal)

3) On the top of the screen, it says "Data connection ref.... ", What is it saying and what does it mean?

4) I can turn Wireless ON/OFF. I thought whenever Wireless was ON, it meant I'm connected to the internet?? Yet, when I turned it off, I can not receive any calls. Should it be LEFT "On"?

Thanks for now.

Wirelessly posted (my new touch button BB)

1 and 3 are tied together data connection refused means you have no BB data plan whick likely means you cannot currently access internet on most carriers

2 EDGE or edge capitals means you are capable of sending data non caps NO data

4 wireless of means you are turning off the radio receiver in phone means it connect communicate with cell tower! Leave it on

I don't remember where but I think on the BB you can turn off data so you don't connect to internet but also not able to get email either

^Thank you.

So is there a sign when I'm connected to the internet?

And by data services, you mean the internet right? When I'm in OFF mode, it's not charging me (if I don't have a data plan). Whereas if it's on, it's charging me continuosly whether or not I have a data plan?

If you don't have a data plan, you won't get data, and thus will not be charged. It's not a pay-per-kb unless your carrier specifically offers such an animal.

Honestly, I think it would be safe to say that Rogers offers such an animal..
