Default 8830 with verizon...what can i do?

I understand the whole gps disabled...so my question is there any usefullness to maps or google maps?

Yes, Google Maps will still find your location using the cell tower triangulation.

Unless plans are different in different areas of the country you do too have GPS. I'd check back w/ Verizon. It's not a satellite based GPS, but is rather based on triangulation between tower signals. As a result you may not always be in range of enough towers. Plus this technology is only accurate within 1700 meters - about a mile. So it's not extremely useful, only a neet curiosity. An honest to goodness GPS servive is available to you at additional cost. My question - Where did you get the OS 4.5? I didn't know Verizon suplied that for the 8830 yet. Thanks

that is not GPS, it is cell tower triangulation, totally different. VZW disables the GPS on their devices until you purchase the service.
