I believe the limit is 2.9MB.
And no, there's no way of changing that.

I was going to say I thought the email limit was 3MB, but thought better to wait and see what others said.

With that . . . If you are sending to another blackberry user, try sending with BBM. I have a feeling I've sent some faily larger files that way, but I won't swear to it. Anyway, worth a try.

And ditto, there's nothing you can do about the limits. But there may be other options, such as internet services. But I'll also leave that for someone to answer who knows the real skinny on it.

. . . I just tried to send a 10MB file to a contact via BBM and got the error that the file was too large and that the max size for that contact is 6MB. So, my memory was correct.

And also, I know I've successfully sent a file to one contact, then was unsuccessful with another contact for the reason that the file was too large for that second contact. I don't know why it varies with contact. When I failed to send to that second contact, I looked to see if there was a setting in BBM or in the blackberry options to set a limit, and so far I haven't found one.

Some email administators impose attachment size limits on their mail servers. Which is why some may work and others do not.

mail servers involved when using BBM?

At first I thought it was a carrier imposition, but the two contacts, the one that worked and the one that didn't, are both on t-mobile same as me. The one this morning is on verizon or sprint, but I think verizon if memory serves.

Then I was thinking the network knows what the device is connected at and will reduce the allowed file size on slower connections. When it worked that time with one contact and failed with the other, I know the first contact was connected via wifi; I don't know about the second, but it likely could have been EDGE. If that theory is correct, it could explain why this contact this morning can accept file sizes up to 6MB.

I know I can test. I try a large file to that first contact from the other day with wifi enabled, then turn of wifi and try the same file again, see if makes a difference. Just haven't done it.

Sorry Ira, I got confused with what the OP was doing versus what you were suggesting.

Just from history on the forums, seems the ~3MB limit for email is universal. That's why I was surprised the first time I sent a larger file via BBM.

And for those that don't know, BBM does not send the file in the conventional sense as an attachment. The app send a file transfer request to the contact. When the contact accepts the request, their blackberry downloads the file from your blackberry. It's very cool.

But the OP is asking about MMS and EMAIL. Not BBM

True, but in my first response to the OP, I suggested trying BBM if possible, because I thought it allows larger file sizes. And then with my followup I was providing additional info: Yes, larger files sizes are possible with BBM, but it depends. ... It's a suggested alternative, as I say, if the OP is trying to send to another blackberry.
