what the best approach to have cingular unlock the bb 8700c i know a guy that has been with cingular for years...(so he is over that 3 month mark) how would he go about unlocking the phone...he is selling..then how would i know as a buyer its been "unlocked"?

if i am buying an "unlocked" bb 8700c from the seller (or from anyone)
how would i know the phone has been unlocked? would it be by me entering my sim card and being able to make a call? is there any further activation I would have to take with my carrier if i get an unlocked 8700c? how would i know its unlocked? so to be on the safe seller...the seller is lying...thanks!

Just tell him to call Cingular and say that he is traveling overseas and needs to have the device unlocked.

If the device is locked, when you enter a non provider SIM (say TMO if it's a Cingular locked device), it will prompt you to insert the correct SIM.
