Default MICRO SD MEMORY - Please Explain

Is it normal for a 2GB Microsd to be 1.8GB out the box? What happens to the 0.2MB?

The discrepancy is due to the way operating systems measure storage capacity, and how it differs from the way storage manufacturers measure storage capacity.

The OS "speaks" binary, and the storage device manufacturer advertises in decimal.

The 2GB SD card has 2 billion bytes of storage capacity. (2,000,000,000)
They measure a gigabyte in decimal as 1,000,0000 bytes. (1000 x 1000 x 1000)

The operating system sees storage capacity in binary. A binary gigabyte is not 1,000,000,000 bytes. It's 1,073,741,824 bytes. (1024 x 1024 x 1024)

So, to the OS, 2GB is shown as 1.8GB
2,000,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 1.8
