Default Is my curve locked?

Please Login to Remove!

I put in my SIM card for my local carries and it still says Insert SIM Card. Does this mean my curve is locked? How can I tell for sure?

go to options -> advanced options ->SIM Card and see if it says Security Enabled at the top. If so, then its locked

It simply says SIM Card: NO VALID SIM CARD. I do have a valid SIM card properly seated in it. THe SIM card works fine in my other phone.

Any idea?

That is not how you check to see if a BB is locked. No valid sim card usually means it's locked. You can check by going to Options >Advanced Options >Sim Card. then type M E P D on the screen (you won't see anything on the screen while you are typing.) It should show a list of items. Next to "Network" it should say Inactive or disabled (I can't remember which) if it's unlocked. If it's locked it will say "Active."

To know if its locked is very simple

once in the sim card menu

hold down the ALT key and type in MEPE, if a box pops up asking for a MEP code your phone is locked

Why is the lock issue such a big deal? I asked AT&T (Cingular) for the unlock code and instructions yesterday. It arrived today via email....Free....No problem.

It's a big deal because you have to be a customer of cingular in order for Cingular to give you the unlock code for a Cingular device. Cingular can't give an unlock code for a TMo device. So if I, a Tmo customer, were to buy a Cingular/ATT Curve Cingular wouldn't unlock it for me. TMobile can't unlock it for me. What do I do now? That's where services like Adam at GSMPhoneSource come in.

I had the same problem when I first received mine. I took out the sim and had to re-insert a couple of times and then it worked......
