I need a car kit for my 8700c. I've read several recommendations but nothing definitive. All I want is reliable pairing and voice/audio quality; don't care about voice commands...

Look at Igreenbergs reviews of the cases for the 8700, that guy must have 20 or more and he knows his stuff. Just search for Vaja, Fortte, or leather cases and you can decide for yourself.
