8900 behaving wierd - virus? what is goin on?
Please Login to Remove!
I have had the 8900 for about 2 years now, very happy with it.
Suddenly last week, it started acting weird.
When I press the menu key, it takes me to the camera. When I press the trackball, it locks the device. When I press the return key next to the trackball, it locks. When I press the answer key, it locks.
Even in the address book and calendar, it won't let me access the menu - pressing it takes me to the camera. Sometimes, holding it down, takes me to the camera and then to the menu. When I press O, it will take me to the Options menu but the moment I select something, it locks.
Any ideas what is going on? I have not updated the device software for a while 4.6.1.231 on T-Mo. I keep getting an annoying pop-up asking me to connect to Google - I think I installed some Google app recently.
Please help.

Virus? No.

Any chance it got wet?

Do you carry it in your pocket? Could be dirt or lint, or as NJ mentioned, it got wet somehow.
No virus on a BB yet.

You think you installed a google app recently? Maybe you have too many apps installed and you're running low on memory. I have an 8310 that acts like that when I run low on free memory space, and that usually happens after I try out new apps without getting rid of any old apps.

No way. You cannot make such a blatantly false statement. Show me the proof.

As someone who dislikes some of Google's business practices, your statement is either ignorant or just plain stupid. Choice is yours.

Yes. It takes over the BlackBerry camera and randomly takes snapshots. This is how Google gets their images for 'Street View' on Google Maps.

I'm entitled to my opinion just like you are. Go read their license agreements. Every google product is pure spyware. If you're a google fanboi, I can't help you.

I hate Google. It's just not spyware. Get a clue.
Opinions are like behinds - everyone has them and they all stink.
And your opinion, in this case, baseless and absurd.

I believe he already stated that he dislikes some of Google's business practices, so why would you think he is a fan boi?

Fascinating insights into Google....
But yes, I did install some Google apps recently and I keep getting this popup about wanting to connect to google.com - continue, view certificate, etc.
I am going to delete all GApps and see what happens.
Any other ideas on how to recover from this?
No it has been wet.

Deleted Google Talk, Google Voice.
Problem still persists. Trackball locks. Menu key goes to camera. Maybe I just wipe the entire BB and reinstall?
