Default How to force POP3 instead of IMAP?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all, I'm a new BB user that switched from Windows Mobile.

I have been trying to do this for 3 days so far and can't find an answer.

I have an email account from an ISP. I use MS Outlook to download my emails via POP3.

When I type in the settings (pop email server, user, pwd) in the BB, it automatically sets up the account as IMAP.

How do I force it to be configured as POP3 instead?

Just curious... Why would you want to switch? IMAP has some additional features over POP and will probably end up being more "nicely" integrated with BlackBerry Internet Service.

BIS is going to pick the best connection method for you.

I currently have it setup as IMAP, but I have sync issues :

1. If an email comes in, and I open it first in MS Outlook, it stays as UNREAD in the BB until I manually delete it.

2. If an email comes in, it's open in BB, then it is downloaded to MS Outlook, it still stays in the BB. Since it is downloaded to Outlook, it should dissapear from BB.

3. If an email is sent from the BB, it leaves an extra copy of the email in the SENT ITEMS through IMAP folders; then it has to be manually deleted through my ISP's website, because POP3 won't download it and delete from the Sent Items.

I have read many threads about people having similar sync issues and I think it's all because of IMAP. I did not have any issues setting up my Windows Mobile through POP3 before.

Can you tell what advantages IMAP offers?

Switching to POP won't solve your issues.
What you're describing are merely limitations of BIS. You can't do what you want to do.

Among other things, IMAP supports the IDLE command which will allow for quicker email delivery to your handheld... provided that your mail server supports IDLE.
