Default Promoting win 2003 r2 to domain controller with BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone, hope someone can help me here.....

Current set up :

Windows 2003 R2 running BES 4.0.7 MR3
Windows 2000 SP4 running Exchange 2000. (also our domain controller).

This is currently working perfectly.

I'm in the process of rolling out Exchange 2007 and to do this I need to introduce a 2003 domain controller into the domain.

The domain has been prepared and I'm at the stage to DCPROMO the Win 2003 R2 box that's hosts our BES. (it's the only option I have).

However, when I do this any local accounts on the machine will be deleted. This will include the besadmin user.

Can BES 4.0.7 run on the same Win 2003 R2 that is the Domain Controller. This machine will become the master domain controller.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Is this ok? Is there a better way around this?

Thanks in advance,

Ps I realise I will have lots more upgrading to do to get to Exchange 2007/BES 5 but this is an interim step so that I can install the Exchange 2007 server into our current domain.

Don't make the BES a domain controller.
Not only is this not supported by RIM, but it will also introduce a handful of headaches that you don't want.

Find another piece of hardware, or even a virtual server, and make that your domain controller instead.

Agreed, if you don't have a virtual infrastructure even a PC will do. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you read up on upgrading your domain from W2K to W2K3.

Personally I'd wait until BES is supported with Exchange 2010 if you're going to spend all that money on new CALs.
