Default desktop manager 4.7 crashing

Please Login to Remove!

I've recently got my first blackberry so quite new to the phone and software, I'm using a curve8900. I've set up my email accounts (outlook and hotmail) and receive my mail ok. I installed desktop manager 4.7 so i could reconcile my outlook messages and calendar, however whenever i attach my blackberry via usb it just freezes, the DM screen either goes blank or fades out!
I'm using outlook version 2003 and windows xp pro.
Has anybody came accross this before? or any suggestions?
Cheers

Welcome to the forums!

You may want to try re-installing DM 4.7 on your PC. Sounds like there may have been some installation errors.

Hi ndub33,
Thanks for the advice, i had already tried re-installing the software and it just does the same thing.
I'm going to try installing an earlier version of DM to see if that makes a difference!

You could Desktop Manager 4.5 or 4.6 their really is no difference in the 3..

Have you tried multiple USB ports?
Are you able to try a different computer?

I've seen 1 instance were one of my users have the same problem.. turns out it was the BlackBerry which was defective.. had it swapped out and all was good.

Are you connecting the PC via a HUB? If so, connect directly to the PC and preferably to one of the ports in the rear of the PC (if its a desktop). BBs do not like HUBs.

Also I suggest fully deleteing DM 4.7 and trying 4.6, but install with anti-virus off.

If 4.6 doesn't want to work, go to 4.2 SP2/SP3. That on is very solid and works well with XP and Outlook 2003.

Hey,
Thanks for all the suggestions, I've worked my way through them and not had much success. Although when i now connect to my computer the DM screen says that it's 'working', it just doesn't come back to me with anything else.
I'm going to try my home pc tonight to see if it works incase it's something to do with my companys IT system.
I also got a pop up message telling me that my blackberry wasn't associated with a blackberry enterprise server! is this a requirement for the software and the sync facility to work properly?

No, you don't need to be connected to an Enterprise server for DM functionality to work...I would guess that this is part of the overall probelm you are having with DM. Let us know if any of the posted suggestions have helped.
